The University of Iowa is home to some of the most accomplished, well-funded research centers in the country, institutes making incredible strides in everything from audiology to neurological disorders. These labs and institutes provide unique opportunities to students for direct, hands-on research experience. That means more than just a sparkling resume. It means getting the chance to try new fields and explore your interests in the real world while you’re still an undergrad.
40+ Pulitzer Prize-winning faculty and alumni. Seven U.S. Poets Laureate. Blockbuster filmmakers. Oscars, Emmys, Tonys, Peabodys, elite symphony placements—the list of accolades earned by members of the University of Iowa arts community goes on and on.
In particular, Iowa stands out as one of the foremost literary destinations in the world. Faculty and alumni like Kurt Vonnegut, Flannery O’Connor, and John Irving all found inspiration while working with the legendary Iowa Writers’ Workshop. This established Iowa City as America’s first UNESCO City of Literature, one of only 28 in the world today.

Hello from the Midwest US! I am Becky Hanson, Associate Director of International Outreach & Recruitment here at the University of Iowa. With much pride, I am an alumna of the University of Iowa Tippie College of Business. I am a past president of the Study Iowa Consortium and NAFSA International Enrollment Liaison. I have made a life-long career of finding and supporting new Iowa Hawkeyes. With travel to over 40 countries to meet students, parents, and counselors, my time spent in Canada remains memorable, from athletes to non-athletes, seeking Iowa’s world-renowned academics and top college town vibe. The University of Iowa enrolls 30-35 Canadians every year and I look forward to meeting you and welcoming you to join our Iowa Hawkeye family!
